How to use HR Analytics to spark strategic HR discussion?

Only for members of Strategic HR

In spring 2014, Novo Nordisk’s senior management asked HR to define the important “bond” they perceive to exist between the company and its employees, out of concern that continued organisational growth may stress or even threaten critical elements of that bond.

During the summer of 2014 an HR-led project team defined through primarily qualitative analysis 9 employer inputs and 5 employee outputs which are indicative of the bond. Key executives and stakeholders were able to validate these identified themes throughout the autumn.

By the end of 2014, Novo Nordisk’s HR Analytics team engaged Copenhagen Business School (CBS) to perform a robust analysis of large organisational datasets, to explore the relationships between the identified bond elements. The company wished to determine which bond elements matter the “most” and would therefore need to be monitored over the coming growth period, in order to safeguard the strong company culture and protect the strength of the employee/employer bond. The analysis is being concluded now. We will present the results at the meeting and invite you for a discussion on how to use HR analytics in strategic HR discussions

From Novo Nordisk you will meet:

Mette Aagaard Hertz,
Corporate Vice President and head of HR in R&D, who was heading up ’The Bond Project’.
Mette will talk about the business rationale for the project, present the key conclusions and why data analytics became key.

Pete Jaworski, Director, HR Analytics in Corporate HR.
Pete was the one who called upon CBS to assist with the data analytics. Pete will talk about what the challenges were and why Novo Nordisk needed CBS to challenge and improve. He will also present the results from the analysis.

From Copenhagen Business School you will meet:

Dana Minbaeva, Professor in Strategic and Global HRM at the Department of Strategic Management and Globalization, and a founder of Human Capital Analytics Group (www.cbs.dk/hc-analytics). Dana will elaborate on Novo Nordisk’s challenges and take on a broader perspective on the use and usefulness of human capital analytics for organizational performance.
