Talent development of Specialists – who are they and what do we do with them?
Talent development of specialists
For some it is old news and something we have been doing for a long time, while for others it is completely uncultivated land. In many organisations, the focus has been on developing talent and specialist talent who will pursue a management career, and for these it is quite obvious what they need to learn – namely management.
In continuation of the last meeting at Fertin Pharma on May 30, where we got an insight into the way Fertin Pharma works with talent development of specialists, and the meeting here at NOCA on October 3, where two foreign students presented the results of the research that they carried out in early summer here in Denmark among some of NOCA's members, we are now continuing the track with a focus on talent development of specialists.
However, it is not necessary to have attended these meetings in order to participate in the meeting on 5 December. Everyone can get involved and contribute to the discussion.
How do you develop specialist talents?
What is a specialist talent – and is there even a clear definition of what it is? These are just some of the many questions that arise when developing such a heterogeneous group as specialists. What is the common denominator among specialists? Is there anyone at all?
Janus Grant Petersen from Danske Bank, who should have been today's speaker, has been prevented from participating. Instead, I am happy to introduce Charlotte Schmidt, HR Senior Director at TDC and Christian Jørgensen, Senior Consultant at Conmoto, who himself has a past at TDC. Charlotte and Christian have many years of experience with the development of specialists in TDC and, in Christian's case, also in other smaller companies, and together they will present how TDC has worked in recent years with the development of specialists/experts. While many companies have only recently focused on the development of specialists, TDC has been doing this work for several years and therefore has plenty of experience and good advice to share.
- At the meeting, Christian Jørgensen will initially give a general introduction to the subject seasoned with experiences from his work in several Danish companies
- Then Charlotte Schmidt will present TDCs access to and work with the development of specialists/experts.
Based on TDC's case and the experiences of other companies, we will then divide our dialogue into two:
- Who are the specialists we want to develop?
- What do we want to do with them/ what should they learn?
I hope that many of you will participate in this exciting debate, so that together we can create next practice within Talent Development of Specialists.
