Stress can be prevented - get started!

I am stressed! We hear it everywhere. It's your colleague, your friend, a family member, it's even yourself who says you feel stressed!

It is a condition in virtually all Danish companies. The organisation's employees suffer in large numbers from stress and are called off sick from work - and in the worst case, this can lead to early retirement. Stress tendencies can affect the whole organization and are a big cost for the company.

Stress can be prevented - NOCA

But how much does it really cost?

  • 1,5 million extra days of absence per year due to stress-related illness
  • Sick leave due to work-related stress costs Danish society DKK 27 billion. DKK annually.

There are a number of action areas in which organizations can work with stress:

  • Top management involvement
  • Remove taboos
  • Train all the managers
  • Inform and provide tools to all employees
  • Implement stress policies

Join us for this networking meeting, where you will hear two exciting cases from Carlsberg and Novo Nordisk , who will tell you how they have worked to manage stress issues at both the primary, secondary and tertiary stages. There will also be time to reflect and discuss how you can manage stress in your own organization.

In the past 2 years, Carlsberg has had a focus on dealing with stress problems in the organization more systematically, and giving employees and managers the tools to express and act on stress symptoms at an early stage, as well as preventing stress through a focus on well-being and personal sustainability.

Carlsberg has trained preventive stress management with the functional management groups and top management, prepared a stress policy, incorporated well-being dialogues and worked with the seminar "Mind your future", which focuses on personal sustainability and stress prevention with a view to well-being and performance. In an ongoing management program called Semper Ardens, an entire training day is set aside to equip managers to maintain well-being and job satisfaction among employees, manage stress and work-related stress.

Carlsberg has already seen a downward trend in their stress absence and has more than halved stress absence since they started. Carlsberg has an ambition for stress sickness absence of 0%

In the biopharmaceutical production at Novo Nordisk , the Mental well-being hotline pilot project was developed in 2018. The project arose from a desire to establish an effort that specifically provided employees and managers with support and assistance in handling incipient stress symptoms at an early stage.

The purpose of the project was to test whether Novo Nordisk could prevent stress-related absence by means of a more targeted effort. The project has been used to test whether the initiatives will be applicable to the rest of Novo Nordisk Denmark. The pilot period ran from February 2018 to February 2019.

The results are promising and will be presented at the meeting.

Yun Ladegaard, Ph.D. Researcher at the Department of Psychology, University of Copenhagen and Head of Occupational Efforts at the Center for Mental Health Promotion, presents basic knowledge about work-related stress and tools for preventing stress at organizational, management, group and individual level.

Stress-Off-Bar

To completely de-stress after the meeting, there will be networking opportunities after the event, where you can enjoy a cold Carlsberg and discuss the day's topics.
