Psychological safety management

Psychological safety in the workplace – from intention to practice

Psychological safety – or psychological security – has become one of the most widely used concepts in modern management. But how do we go from talking about safety to actually managing it? How do we go from intention and values to concrete management practices?

Most leaders want a culture where employees dare to speak their minds, admit mistakes, and ask critical questions. Yet time and again, we see that things like silence, misunderstood considerations, and unclear expectations can hinder both collaboration and performance – and the confidence that allows you to speak up.

In his new book The little book on managing psychological safety Organizational psychologist Jesper Bubandt Toft argues that psychological security is not an individual trait, but a managerial and structural responsibility. A responsibility that is about frameworks, purposes and agreements, but also about hierarchy, interactions and, not least, about designing situations where courage can actually arise and thrive.

The book is written with specific cases and a comprehensive leadership model, which Jesper will use as a starting point in the webinar. He will present his practical and accessible guide to managers and HR/People partners who want concrete steps to create a safe working environment where there is room for mistakes, disagreements and learning – without compromising on direction and results.

You will gain insight into:

  • What psychological safety actual is and what it means to party psychological security
  • The typical misunderstandings and pitfalls in working with psychological safety
  • How frameworks and clear agreements create security
  • Why too much (or too little) consideration can undermine collaboration
  • How leaders can promote courage, learning and performance – even in complex organizations

Therefore, you should participate:

Psychological safety is crucial to creating a good overall experience for employees. When an employee experiences fairness, respect and a real opportunity to contribute, well-being, learning and performance are enhanced.

Working with psychological safety is not just about culture, but about creating an organization where people can navigate complexity, take responsibility – and thereby develop. It also has a positive effect on the quality of relationships, talent retention and the organization's ability to deliver results over time.

The webinar gives you a professionally based and practical perspective on how psychological safety can strengthen your employees' experience of being part of your workplace - and how you can work with it in your organization.

The webinar is relevant for those of you who work with Employee Experience, People & Culture, HR, development, well-being, organizational development and culture or management - and anyone who wants a professionally based and practical look at how to create psychological security in everyday life.

"A nice little book about psychological security that takes its own medicine by conveying good, concrete points very straightforwardly but also considerately. Not least towards us managers, who are probably familiar with many of the considerations, but who do not always give all the book's good elements sufficient importance in the situation or at least in time. The book reminds us of this in an insightful and very accessible way, which can be immediately translated into management practice."
