Loneliness in leadership calls for action
What is behind it, and what can we do about it?
Why are leaders particularly vulnerable to the experience of loneliness, and how does it challenge leadership well-being and performance? And most importantly, what can be done about it?
The leadership role is increasingly characterized by cross-pressure, responsibility and expectations. Many leaders are faced with decisions they cannot share, considerations and expectations that pull in different directions, and a responsibility that ultimately ends up with them. At the same time, the story of the “strong leader” who has all the answers and shows no doubt lives on, which creates a narrow space for talking about what is difficult. And it is precisely these conditions that mean that many leaders can nod in recognition of the experience of loneliness.
Join this webinar, where we will discuss the book Loneliness in the leadership role – Shortcuts to well-being on the edge of the community, written by Julie Elming and Camilla Lange, together with one of the book's authors, Julie Elming, delves into how the leadership role can place the leader on the edge of the community - and why loneliness should not be seen as a condition we simply have to accept.
We focus on why loneliness in the leadership role can be so obvious and yet so underexposed, and how we can create language, understanding and, not least, concrete measures that strengthen both community and leadership well-being.
