Informal leadership across the board – a practical guide

How do we create results in complex working communities? How do we handle cross-functional collaboration in an organization characterized by increasing complexity? Transversal tasks require special skills, as they often have to be solved outside the familiar framework of hierarchy, structure and fixed roles. As an HR professional, this requires how you support employees, projects and teams, and how you can act as an informal leader yourself and create concrete results in situations where formal authority is not enough.

In this webinar, we take Elisabeth Plum's book Informal management across – a practical guide as a starting point and examine how informal management can create innovation, relational cohesion and measurable results in the organisation.

With the book's practical approaches, we delve into:

  • Navigate wisely the intersection between formal and informal management, because otherwise both managers, HR professionals and the informal leaders themselves can make the informal leadership job more difficult than it is.

  • Solving cross-functional tasks requires collaboration, and informal leaders must create constructive cord pulls in all the important interactions upwards, downwards and sideways.

  • Hear how collaboration skills teaming is important to develop for both the leader and the team, and how differences can be used as a resource that improves results.

  • Unclear expectations for informal leaders can create poor leadership, but insight into four management positions makes it easier to steer around the traps.

Be inspired to work with informal management and gain new perspectives and practical ideas that you can take back to your own organization.
