Program:

The program will be a mix of interactive sessions:

What Global Leaders Really Need?

B. Sebastian Reiche, PhD
Associate Professor of People Management
IESE Business School

As organizations conduct a growing share of their operations abroad, their ability to attract and develop people that not only effectively perform global tasks, but also actively influence and motivate people at a global level, provides a key source of competitive advantage. This has greatly increased the need for global leadership competences. In this session, we will take a deep-dive into what makes for an effective global leader, no matter in which context one operates.

How to Retain Key Employees

Benjamin A. Campbell
Associate Professor of Management and Human Resources
Fisher College of Business – The Ohio State University

For an organization to generate sustainable competitive advantage from their key workers they must be able to retain them. One way to retain key employees is to increase their compensation, however this path unavoidably erodes the benefits to the firm of retaining that employee. In this session, we take an economics-oriented approach and highlight a variety of other mechanisms that allow firms to retain key employees at a discount.

Global Leadership Development – the real life challenges.

Elmer Mortensen
Senior Leadership Development Manager
FLSmidth

FLSmidth has made many strategic acquisitions during the last ten years and therefore undergone a transformation into leading positions in new markets. However – integration of the company and leadership quality has lacked behind – but is required in order to harvest from the acquisitions in the future. In the middle of an industry wide cyclical downturn – FLSmidth has chosen to invest massively in leadership quality and leadership development on a global scale – covering managers at four levels on six continents. How do you do that? When you want to make the impact of the program alive within 12 months and reach a tipping point within24 months. And furthermore, how do you make sure to embed the mindset and practices into the managers’ daily life in order to build a sustainable leadership quality, rather than just delivering training.

Do Global Leadership Programs Work? How Do We Know?

Dana Minbaeva, MBA, Ph.D.
Professor in Strategic and Global HRM, Department of Strategic Management and Globalization
CBS

Why guess when you can know? In this session Dana will talk about the importance of measuring the impact and how we can base our decisions on knowledge rather than guessing and assuming.
